Frequently asked questions

Guidance for foreign nationals applying for Ghana immigration permits.

Who needs a Ghana work permit?

Foreign nationals intending to work in Ghana must obtain a work permit from the Ghana Immigration Service before commencing employment, including staff of companies registered under GIPC, GFZ, or IQC frameworks.

How do I start an application?

Register for an applicant account, then select the permit type that matches your sponsor (WP-GIPC, WP-GFZ, WP-IQC, or WP-General). You will be guided through document upload, fee payment, and biometrics scheduling.

What documents do I need?

At minimum: a valid passport, employer cover letter, employment contract, CV, and relevant academic or professional certificates. Your sponsor category may require additional documents (e.g., GIPC registration, GFZ license).

How long does processing take?

Standard processing is 15–20 working days after all documents are submitted and fees are paid. Expedited processing may be available in limited circumstances.

How are fees paid?

Fees are paid at an authorized bank counter inside the GIS office using the invoice generated in your dashboard. Cash, bank transfer, and card payments are accepted where supported.
